Daughter

I am so so happy that I got to see Daughter live in St. Louis just a couple months ago. Hailing from London, Daughter is a beautiful trio of people. They have such a quirky and sweet demeanor, masked and intertwined with the immeasurable depth and feeling of their music. The lead singer, Elena Tonra, is the absolute cutest person--when I saw her live, she was so nervous and shy, but absolutely endearing.

Elena's voice slays me. There is so much aching emotion in her lyrics and music; her songs really allow me to reflect about life on a deeper level. So many feels.

"Run"

I find this song more open to interpretation relative to some of Daughter's other songs. I love its ethereal rhythms and haunting passion underlying the lyrics. My all-time favorite by Daughter, "Run" never fails to provoke my thoughts.

I couldn't find a live version that I adored with all my heart. I still undoubtedly love this moody and evocative version from CommunionRecords, but I highly suggest you look into a better recording of "Run".

"Medicine"

So much passion in her voice. So, so beautiful. I love the original, but this acoustic version from WatchListenTell is too special. Plus, her intro--isn't she so adorable??

"Youth"

I cannot talk about Daughter without discussing "Youth". I believe this song to be one of their most well-known songs, presumably because it flirts with feelings of contentment or exhilaration, while still exuding a deep sadness. My favorite version is from The Current--Live on 89.3--I believe this version accurately captures both the warmth and nostalgia of "Youth".
