We hope everyone is having a wonderful fall. We definitely are--despite some of the rainy days (though it may remind Rahee of home)--because its SWEATER WEATHER!!! :D Our past few weeks have been pretty hectic at school, but cozying up and studying with hot drinks and good music has definitely made studying more bearable. Kind of.
Here are some musical obsessions that have gotten us through the hard times. Like some RUL HARD times....

What Lori listened to:
"Three White Horses" by Andrew Bird: so many of Andrew Bird's songs evoke the feeling of wanting to curl up next to a fireplace with good company, a hot cup of tea, and to just be content. This song was my go-to this October for late-night study seshes. I particularly like this live version, courtesy of The Current. I can't ever seem to get enough of the nostalgic haunting strings and all the passion the band members put into their music.
Mother Falcon: Speaking of passionate music, I don't think I know of a band more enthusiastic and, well...passionate than Mother Falcon. They are from the wonderful world of Austin, Texas, and have made already made a huge impact in the music community despite being a relatively new band. They started in high school as a quartet, which grew to nine members, and have since then grown to become an eighteen-piece band of pure awesomeness. I can't get over how much I love how their music is so dynamic and eccentric. Mother Falcon is so peppy and so impassioned about what they are doing! This NPR Tiny Desk Concert version always put me in a more energetic mood and motivated me throughout the month. Pay particular attention to "Marfa" around 3:30; I literally cannot stop listening. I hope you take a peek and find the same spark in them that I found so inspiring.
What Rahee listened to:
"Weekends" by NAVVI: I'm so excited to share this band with you guys! I know one of the two members, and am totally blown away by NAVVI's amazing sound. It's dark and haunting, and incredibly catchy. NAVVI is a fresh face to the Seattle music scene, having just released their debut two songs this month. In addition to "Weekends," check out "No Lights." Both songs are powerful and full of energy, and are sure to remain stuck in your head.
"Sea of Love" by The National: How did I get to senior year of college having only heard one song by The National? It wasn't until I heard their amazing set at Loufest ("Sea of Love" was amazingly moving live) in September that I really took the time to listen to their music. I am especially a fan of their newest album, Trouble Will Find Me, released in May. Every song on the album echoes with emotion and while most of their songs are fairly somber, sometimes that just the thing I want to listen to. If you have time, check out The National's NPR Tiny Desk Concert as well.
"We've Got Our Obsessions" by 2Sugars: I had a hard time deciding between sharing this song with you, or another song by 2Sugars called "Vital." "We've Got Our Obsessions" is way more upbeat and fun, while "Vital" has these intense female vocals and with that, more depth to the song. I've listened to both songs quite a bit this month, and while I don't think 2Sugar's sound is the most unique, I do like their music overall.
