I stumbled upon The New Division through my Purity Ring Pandora station (read: the reason Pandora exists), and immediately fell in love with the band's M83-esque sound. The New Division is one of those bands that perfectly captures the kind of music that I love: 80s-inspired synth, not-too-chill chillwave and moody ooh-ooh-oooooohs. They have that hip LA-noir swag thing going for them (think The Neighbourhood), which I'm very into these days.
My favorite from The New Division is "Shallow Play," which to me is a perfect combination of Geographer and Joy Division. It's eerie, and is definitely a song that makes me want to drive around a big city at night (is that weird?). Give Starfield and Opium a listen as well, all 3 songs are posted below (and the beginning of Opium is particularly epic). The New Division's first full-length album, "Shadows," was released two years ago, so I am looking forward to hearing more from them soon. Enjoy!
