1. Ra Ra Riot - "Ghost Under Rocks"
Their newest album is a moderate deviation from their original style, dubbed "string-y chamber-pop". Though I enjoy their newer album, I still cannot help but reminisce about their older material, particularly the song "Ghost Under Rocks". It is a combination of dissonant, mournful, and almost poppy, all in one. This is definitely a song that I have been drawn to over and over again throughout the years...nostalgic AF.
2. Silversun Pickups - "Lazy Eye"
It has been an incredibly long time -- years, perhaps -- since I've returned to listen to Silversun Pickups. Their newer albums just did not intrigue me, particularly since I was off discovering a slew of other artists and bands. Upon re-listening, I can't believe how I've gone so long without enjoying the grungy passion offered by their songs. I'm sad to say that I let them fall to the wayside, especially since this band was the first real concert that I ever went to (shout out to Catherine for reveling in their amazingness with me! And for accepting me when I had trouble understanding how the lead male could sing at such a high range). Here is "Lazy Eye", the first song I was exposed to. Definite TBT right here.
3. STRFCKR - "Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second"
I listen to this song far more often than necessitated for a throwback, but hey, it draws out that wistfulness. I definitely think its due to the song's fun, cloud-like synth and sweeping vocals. It is just one of those songs that keeps me coming back for more. Perhaps it is a lack of substance...? Yolo. Fond memories don't care about substance.
