Happy New Year!

Hey everyone!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Here's to a fantastic year of adventures, exhilaration, and incredible new musical journeys!

Rahee and I cannot believe that it is finally 2014! This is the year that we graduate from the greatest four years of our lives. I personally an shocked that 2014 is upon us--I always thought the end of my time at college was always so elusive and out of my reach. Regardless, Rahee and I are so excited to see what 2014 has in store! Wishing all of you the happiest of new years!

My year in review:

Some old and some new, this year has been an incredible year in terms of music! Here are some of my favorites--a variety of songs that made 2013 an amazing year.

1. "Heavy Feet" by Local Natives: a less-popular, but just-as-incredible foray into new Local Natives. I am too excited because they are coming to St. Louis this upcoming spring! However, I am still holding out for them to play at W.I.L.D.--Wash U's own mini-music festival, if you will (as in: not nearly as glamorous...but I can dream, right?)

2. "Generator ^ First Floor" by Freelance Whales: listen to it, and try telling me it doesn't make you happy. Absolutely one of my musical pick-me-ups over the years.

3. "Song for Zula" by Phosphorescent: such a profoundly magical song...cannot stop listening...

4. "Mute" by Youth Lagoon: for some reason, this band reminds me of the love child of Animal Collective and The Shins...regardless, a very fascinating song.

Obviously there are too many other bands that have shaped my year in music--some of which I hope to review in the future. But for the time being, I hope you enjoy this glimpse into my year of music for 2013!

Exciting musical happenings in this upcoming year:

1. "House of Gold" by Twenty One Pilots: now here is a very interesting band! The rest of their album is not entirely up my alley, but this song definitely has that pep that I am always searching for.

2. "Come a Little Closer" by Cage the Elephant: though this is not exactly the best representation of new musical happenings in 2014 (this particular song came out last year), I am excited for Cage the Elephant to tour. I hope I can see them sometime within the next year! Obviously everyone should, because it gets David Letterman's stamp of approval ;) I chose a more acoustic version from Buzzsession because I thought it was a more refreshing take on the original. Plus, wtf is up with those skull hands?? Loving it.

Sidenote to this song, I ALWAYS for some reason cannot separate this song from Arctic Monkeys...am I crazy??

3. "The Mother We Share" by Chvrches: this song has blown up in my hometown, it's actually crazy how popular it is! I anticipate a lot of hype about this band this upcoming year because of their catchy and quintessential synth-pop feel. Definitely a change of pace from my typical musical style, but it's fun and poppy. Let me know what you think!
