Concert Review: Bonobo and Chet Faker

Two weekends ago, I was in the beautiful city of Atlanta visiting my best friend. It was a wonderful visit, full of good food and lots of naps and a bit of sightseeing. The highlight of the trip was the Bonobo concert we attended, with Chet Faker opening. The concert was set in the gorgeous Egyptian Ballroom at the Fox Theatre. My best friend introduced me to Chet Faker after studying abroad in Australia last year, and I've been listening to Bonobo for a few years now, so both of us had been looking forward to this concert all semester. It did not disappoint: even a couple weeks later, I'm still thinking about how amazing the two musicians were and what a unique show it was!

You'll love Chet Faker if you like soulful electronic melodies. Chet Faker played all our favorites, although quite honestly just seeing him in his bearded perfection was enough to make our nights (he favorited our incredibly creepy tweets about him... what more could we ask for?). Chet Faker's music is an interesting mix of electronic production paired with his downtempo vocals. I love his use of piano as well as the different background noises he uses to provide a soundscape to sink into in every song. Prior to seeing him perform, my favorite songs were "No Diggity" and "I'm Into You," but following the concert I've really been digging "Terms and Conditions." Give his music a listen and if you're feelin' it, keep your eye on Chet because he is doing some pretty sweet things with fellow Australian Flume as well as working on a full length album.

Bonobo was an amazing live show, playing with so much energy it enveloped the audience. I have no words for the set other than "ferocious." Bonobo came out of nowhere and played up a veritable musical storm, complete with a stunning lighted backdrop, live vocals and instruments, and an insane 5 minute drum solo. Bonobo is touring following the release of his newest album, "The North Borders." I'm more familiar with songs from "Black Sands" and "Animal Magic," but I really enjoyed the chance to hear his new songs live. Bonobo is an electronic artist, and while I never would have grouped him with Chet Faker, the whole show flowed seamlessly, and Chet Faker even came out to perform the vocals for one of Bonobo's songs (I love when opening artists and headlining artists interact on stage!)

I'll definitely be keeping up with both these artists, and if you have the chance to see either of them perform, I highly recommend it!
