I am experiencing some major withdrawal now that I'm weeks removed from Loufest. I could not have asked for a better weekend--the weather was incredible (a lil bit of both cool-n-comfy, and sunshine happiness bordering 2nd degree burns), the energy was up, and the bands were, naturally, a wonderful musical discovery.
Here are my thoughts regarding this year’s festival!
Loufest-in-review:
Best discovery: Moon Taxi
Just...listen.
Most entertaining band: Arctic Monkeys
So, this was a given for me. Arctic Monkeys are just so big, the crowd in itself is enough to be entertaining (I will just sideline Outkast’s crowd, which was HAYUGE). But given the fact that I enjoy Arctic Monkeys...yeah. Anyways, they were nothing short of what I would expect. Alex Turner OBVIOUSLY douched it up with his sunglasses and coiffed hair, and god, I love him for it. I hoped he would rock it hard for me Saturday night, and I gotta say, I was certainly not disappointed. tbh I personally thought the older songs KILLED the newer ones...but what’s a gurl to do?
Most funk-town: Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue
Funky groovy jam. Repeat x 1 million.
Overall best artist: San Fermin
Wow. Just...wow. The female vocals were ON. POINT. She was so strong and fierce, plus she had incredible style swag. The lead was serious business, his voice seducing my ears. Needless to say, I was the most impressed by this band. Their clashing asynchrony blew my mind--so good, I can’t even begin to describe. Their new song left me wanting more, and I can’t wait to see what else they come out with! Take a listen for yourself, and see what you think! You’ll be wanting more.
Speaking of which, the lead singer apparently graduated from Yale with a degree in composition--um, is he real?
Band that I wanted more from: Future Islands
I really had high expectations for them. Though I still liked them, in loose terms, I was still confused as to why I didn’t OMGTHEYWERESOFANTASTICRAVERAVERAVE them. However, the lead singer’s overly raspy vocals and pseudo-screamo imitations killed their performance. Definitely a band that I enjoy recorded; not sure if I would choose to see them live again (sorry). Nevertheless, it was still a band that I would suggest you listen to! You may discover something about them that I have yet to discover.
(I chose a non-live version based on my Loufest experience)

Band that everyone else was interested in...except me: Outkast
I know people will hate me for this, but I was rather underwhelmed by Outkast’s performance. Perhaps it was because I could see diddly-squat during the performance (#shortpeopleprobs, amirite?), or because Outkast is definitely not up my musical alley, or perhaps because I was exhausted, having probably suffered some form of heatstroke...but I just had trouble getting pumped up for them. But you might feel differently, so, guess Imma put in this blast-from-the-past gem (I don't even know any of their songs).
OVERALL THOUGHTS:
Compared to last year’s Loufest?
NO RESPONSE (such a cop-out). I can’t decide. Let me listen to all the bands on repeat for some time and see which one I tire of more slowly. Literally, I loved them both. I can say that I think I liked more bands overall last year, though I discovered bands this year that I think I like more. Nevertheless, both have offered unique, incredible, and talented bands. I cannot wait to see what is in store for next year's Loufest! Let me know what you think about this year's line-up!
Deuces
