Hello world! It’s so good to see you! Hope everyone is doing wonderfully. We are Lori Xu and Rahee Nerurkar, two seniors at Washington University in St. Louis. We had the idea to start a music blog last year, fueled by our shared passion for music and realization that our music tastes were creepily similar. We decided that a blog would not only be a great way to share music that we find with others, but also to spend time learning more about something that we both love.
The point of Musicologie is not necessarily to try and only find obscure music that nobody has heard of. The point is to share music that we love. We want to use this blog to showcase our favorite music, and we do hope that you are introduced to new, amazing music through it. But we’d rather post an amazing, old song than a mediocre new one.
We are still figuring out specifics of how we will run the blog. We will probably post individual posts as well as collaborate on others. Bear with us as we iron out the details!
"Something Good" was the first song I listened to. I got caught up in what I consider fairly minimalistic instrumentals, but it was his voice--somewhat abrasive, yet subtly smooth--was what really hooked me. Since then, their album has been a staple in my life. I was able to see them this past spring at SXSW, and THEY. WERE. INCREDIBLE. I am in love with Intro, Tessellate, and Dissolve Me. Check them out!
"Intro:" One of the best intros to anything. Ever.
"Tessellate:" HIS VOICE.
"Dissolve Me:" My absolute favorite by Alt-J. I think it is so quirky and whimsical, but chill at the same time. These distinctions are what make this song so interesting to me.
